Goats

by Judith Lile and Jim Sneed

 The Goats
The goat was introduced to the Humpty Dumpty circus in  1905 and had a long run with only three designs - glass eyes, painted eyes, and  reduced. Both the regular and reduced sizes were made using decal eyes. The goat is a comical animal that plays well with the clowns. All goats were made with leather horns, beard, ears, and tail.

Glass eyes

The glass eyes goat's head is articulated on a separate neck as are all goats. Notice that the nose was made with a "V" shaped nostril.

Triangular head marking

This image was taken from an early catalog and shows a goat with a white triangular forehead marking. We have not seen this goat. Can you send me photos of one? Unknown

Painted eyes

The painted eyes styles would have been introduced in about 1918. The painted eyes version has two simple dots for nostrils.

Decal eyes

The goats with applied decal eyes must have been the last production versions of the goats.
