The performing personnel of the circus are the artists, the
comics, the athletes, the music makers, and the directors of the Humpty Dumpty
circus show. Schoenhut called them "actors". These articles are the result of a study of the many designs and
varieties of these performers. Most performers follow a design progression
from early two-part heads to bisque heads for the gent and lady acrobats,
lion tamers, lady riders, and ring masters then to one-part heads for the
acrobats, clowns, lion tamers, lady riders, Max and Moritz, ring masters, and
the negro dudes. The band members were made only with a two-part head. Very
early Lady Rider heads show how Schoenhut experimented with various production
techniques and head designs before settling on one that was both economical to
produce and marketable.
