The Ted Toy-lers of
New Bedford, Massachusetts made very high quality and complex wooden
toys from about 1925 until 1930. |
 |
Introduced in 1927,
the Ted Toy Marching Squad is a truly amazing pull toy. As it is pulled,
each of the five soldiers march in step. |
| A single marching
soldier I call the Marine, with his original box. The corded arms date
this toy to about 1925-26. |

 |
The size difference
between the regular and giant sized marching soldiers is shown here. The
regular soldier is about 9 inches tall while the giant is 19 inches
tall. |
| A best selling toy
was the Galloping Jockey. The earliest version is shown in the far right
sample and the latest in the center. Earlier pull toys are characterized
by corded arms and legs, slightly larger wheels. |

One of The Ted
Toy-ler's earliest toys, the Continental soldier is one of its best.
Early Teds have arms made from woven cord. Beaded arms were made
starting in 1927. |
| Jockey on Dapple
Horse with bifurcated legs. This seems to be an effort to reduce the
manufacturing costs of this toy. Earlier versions had beaded or corded
legs. |

Ted Toys introduced
their Giants in 1927. This one is about 15 inches tall. Instead of
a jockey, they put their "Klown" on the dapple horse. |
| Not all Ted Toys are pull
toys or crib dolls. The duck on the far right is designed to stand alone. |

Almost all Ted Toy
pull toy metal platforms are painted green. A yellow one is rare. These
are ca 1925 sailors. They swagger when pulled! The white sailor was
probably produced in honor of Billy Dooley - a famous comedian of the
time. |
