Our October 2016 Convention
Our October 2016 club convention was
a great success. Hosts Beth Nance, Michael Hansen, Gayle Hansen,
Helen Thomas and Wayne Thomas welcomed over 97 conventioneers. We visited
the marvelous Spencer Toy Museum and took a guided tour of the huge
National Train Museum. Room-hopping produced a lot of buying and selling.
We'll have pictures in our December Magazine. |

Schoenhut Collector’s Club
32nd Annual Convention:
Lancaster, PA
October 12, 13, 14, 2017
The 32nd Schoenhut
Collector's Club Convention will be held in Lancaster, PA, on October 13
and 14. Early registration will begin on October 12th at 6 p.m. On the
evening of the 12th, we will have food and drink for early arrivers. On
the 13th, we will have a number of speakers, as well as a trip to my
house, lunch at the Crossgates Golf Club and dinner at the famous Plain
and Fancy Restaurant. The evening of the 13th will be reserved for room
hopping, and the hospitality room will also be open.
On the 14th, we will start with the board meeting and then the general
meeting. We will then have a guided bus tour of the Amish countryside, as
well as either a patriotic magic lantern show or a movie on the lives of
Amish people in Lancaster County. Lunch is on your own, and we will have
a dessert buffet set up in the afternoon, along with a series of round
table discussions on various Schoenhut topics.
I am still looking for people who are willing to lead a 20-minute round
table discussion. Please contact me at benjamincr@comcast.net.
We will also hold our yearly auction at the hotel before we leave for
dinner. We will end the convention with dinner on Saturday at a
well-known Lancaster restaurant, Good and Plenty, followed by more room
hopping.
Our Hotel
The
venue for our convention is the Lancaster Host Resort and Conference
Center, a vast mid-century modern hotel on Route 30 East in Lancaster.
The hotel is currently undergoing a much needed renovation, and
unfortunately they are not as far
along as they told me they would be. However, they have already updated
and upgraded the infrastructure mechanics (plumbing, boilers, pumps, roof,
phone system, etc.) Room renovations are already underway and each guest
room has been update with its own temperature controlled heating/AC unit,
energy efficient windows, exterior doors for the courtyard, telephones and
flat screen TVs. Bathroom renovations also should be done in most rooms
(especially 200 and 400 block rooms, so ask for these when you register).
Room rates are $111 for a single room, $123 for two people and $135 for a
triple. THESE RATES INCLUDE A HOT BUFFET BREAKFAST EACH DAY OR YOUR STAY
AS WELL AS ALL TAXES AND GRATUITIES.

If
the Host is full, there is also a Fairfield Inn and Suites right next door
-- literally a five-minute walk to the Host. They can be reached at
717-825-6072.
For those flying in for the convention, you can either fly into
Harrisburg or Philadelphia. Harrisburg is a convenient 45-minute drive to
Lancaster, but it is usually more expensive to fly into Harrisburg and you
will need to rent a car or take a cab to the hotel. From Philadelphia,
you can take a cab from the airport to the 30th Street Amtrak Station, and
then you can take a one hour train ride from Philly to Lancaster. If you
travel to Lancaster by train or bus, call the hotel three days in advance
of your arrival (800-233-0121) and arrange for the hotel to send a
courtesy van to pick you up at the train station or bus terminal.
See you
there.
