Performo Toys

by Richard Mueller Jr.

Performo Toy Company, Incorporated
Middletown, Pennsylvania
Estimated 1924-1930

In 1924, Performo Toy Company introduced a toy line including a mouse design named “Micky”. The toy designed was patented in 1926. Even though Micky carried a patent and was on the market several years prior to the introduction of Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney sued Micky’s creator Rene Grove and managed to stop all production of Performo’s Micky. This lawsuit left Mr. Grove bitter and eventually ended Performo’s toy production. Performo Toy Company advertised their toys have “life-like action” with “no mechanism.” These toys are very rare and will bring a higher value due to their collection desirability.

On a copy of an invoice of toys that Performo sold, the toys are listed as: Hot Dog, Donkey Cart, Micky Racer, Heinie, Squeal Pull Micky, Wadee Noodee, Bunnee, Goosee, Donkey, Circus Wagon, Monkey, Clown, Jumbom, Dog, Slim Jim, Darkey, Lion, Micky and Bunnee Jr.
